PBIS
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, also known as PBIS, is a way to promote positive behavior in the school setting to help our students be successful in school and in their community.
Tier I/PBIS Universal
Our PBIS team includes teachers, administrators, and other staff members. This team meets several times a month to review our behavior data and make changes to help students be more successful. PBIS has four components that may be familiar to you if you have had a student at MacArthur during the past year:
• Mac’s Bear Essentials – The three major school-wide behavioral expectations
• Cool Tools – Lesson plans used to teach students the behavioral expectations
• Bear Bucks – The tickets we use in our reward system
• Student Discipline Referral Forms – sent home if your child earns a “major”
Tier II/Secondary Level:
Students who are not responding to universal supports will receive more intensive intervention through Tier II supports. These systems are set in place for quick implementation when data shows a student is not experiencing success. They include Check-in, Check-Out (CICO), Social/Academic Instructional groups, Mentoring, and Brief Functional Behavior Assessment/Behavior Intervention Plan.
