Dear MacArthur Community,
It has been another great week of learning at MacArthur! While visiting classrooms this week I noticed students engaged in identifying proportional relationships, researching interesting topics, delivering oral presentations and writing about the many ways one might disguise a turkey! We hope you have had a week full of opportunities for learning as well and that you are looking forward to a restful weekend! Please read on for important announcements.
We had 4 talented Toros submit art to this year’s Reflections Art Contest. This included 2 visual arts, 1 short story and 1 photography submission. Please join us in celebrating these students as their art is being judged at the district counsel showcase on Monday, November 25th from 6:30pm-8:30pm at the District 54 Professional Learning Center located at 522 E. Schaumburg Rd, Schaumburg, IL.
6th Grade Parents:
We are excited for 6th grade parent night at Eisenhower on December 11. This informational night is a great opportunity to find out some useful tips for a smooth transition into Eisenhower. This event will take place from 6 pm – 7 pm. Our partnership is important for the success of your child. We look forward to meeting you and answering any questions you may have about Eisenhower and about the transition to junior high.

MacArthur Giving Tree
Our Holiday Giving Tree is up at MacArthur! If you are interested in giving back to our community this holiday season, you can pick up an ornament from the tree. The ornaments include an item that a child wants or needs. We ask that gifts are wrapped, the ornament placed number side up on the gift and dropped off in our office by December 13. Thank you for your generosity!
Volunteer at Feed My Starving Children
Our MacArthur PTA is looking for additional volunteers for Feed My Starving Children. This is an opportunity to support a great community organization and our MacArthur auction at the same time! You may have to create an account on Feed My Starving Children’s page to view it, but after that, you will find the info. Our group will be there Saturday, November 23rd, from noon til 2 PM. Please click the link below to volunteer.
As a school, we strive to meet the needs of the whole child, including the social-emotional needs of every student. Our teachers know your child by name and by need and we work hard to build relationships and understand all of our learners. To better ensure we support every student, this year we will again be using a universal screener to help us ensure we have identified every student who may need additional social-emotional support.
The universal screener is a series of questions that staff members complete for the students they support. Students do not participate in the screener or receive direct feedback about the results. If your child has elevated risk factors identified through this screener, we would contact you directly to discuss how we can work together to intervene and support your student. This is simply one additional way for our staff to make sure we are helping every student be successful. If you have any questions about the screener, please feel free to contact me.
5 Essentials Survey
Once again, we are reaching out to our families and asking you to participate in the annual Illinois 5Essentials Survey to provide us with your perspective and help guide our school improvement efforts. The parent survey will be available online through Feb. 14, 2020, at https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois.
