Dear MacArthur Community,
There has been a lot of learning happening at MacArthur this week as well as a lot of fun! Thank you to all of the volunteers who made our Halloween parties a huge success! As a reminder, there will be no school on Tuesday November 6 due to Election Day. We hope you have a wonderful weekend!

MacArthur will celebrate Veterans as a school on November 9 with a virtual assembly. Students will also be making cards to share with Veterans on this day.
AAPPL testing continues on Monday for students in grades 3-6. AAPPL assesses reading, writing, speaking and listening proficiency through an online interactive format. The AAPPL Assessment measures target language proficiency and scores will be reported using the proficiency benchmarks related to the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) levels – Novice through Advanced.
First Trimester Report Cards
The first trimester ends on November 9, 2018. Everyone who has a parent portal account will be able to view his or her child’s report card online by November 21, 2018. All parents and guardians who have not previously created a portal account but have supplied District 54 with an email address should have received an email with a direct link to sign up for the portal. If you are unable to access the parent portal and require a paper copy of your student’s report card, please contact our office.
Junior High Presentation for Students
Through the month of November, Mrs. Houlihan, the assistant principal of Eisenhower Junior High School, will be visiting each feeder elementary school. Sixth grade students will get an overview of a typical day at the junior high school and they will have an opportunity to ask questions. Elective course selection sheets will go home on December 10, a parent night will be held on December 12. The elective course selection sheets are due to 6th grade teachers on December 14.

Mindful Meditation – November 14
As part of our ongoing focus on student wellness, we invite parents and their children to join us in learning how to use the power of something super simple – your breath – to improve concentration, reduce stress, improve quality of sleep and help you handle your response (both emotional and physical) to outside circumstances and situations. Please bring your own yoga mat or a towel to sit on during meditation. This event will take place from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on November 14, 2018, at the District 54 Professional Learning Center, 522 E.
