Holiday Wishes

Posted Friday, December 16th, 2011 by dmeyer

Dear MacArthur Community,

Even without snow it has been a flurry of fun here at Mac. Thanks so much to Mrs. Johnson, Mrs. Greenbaum and Mrs. Roberts for their work in organizing the first Taste of Mac last Friday night. It was an amazing and delicious evening. Thank you also to Mrs. Estrada for her work with our Folkloric Dance Group and Ms. Carbajal for leading our primary dance group. The students did a great job entertaining the crowd.

All this week our students have been showing off their skills and talents with Music Club Night, Egyptian Museum Night and even Sock Puppet Night for our 1st and 2nd graders. Thank you to our MacArthur staff for their work inside and outside the classroom to enrich the lives of our students.

On Thursday, athletes, cheerleaders and musicians from the Hoffman Hawks came to encourage our 5th and 6th grade students in the Booking with the Hawks program. Students who read four books between December 15 and January 30 will earn a free ticket for their families to attend a Hawks basketball game on February 3rd and be recognized at the event. Your 5th or 6th grade child should be bringing that information home.

Thank you again to all of the families that purchased gifts for students from our Holiday giving tree. As the families came in this week to
pick up the gifts they consistently expressed their gratitude for your generosity.

We ended our day today with a great concert from Tropexplosion, a cultural arts presentation sponsored by our PTA. The students and staff had a
great time and singing and dancing to the steel drum band. Thanks to Mrs. Pilafas for organizing the event.

On behalf of the entire MacArthur staff, we wish your
families all the best this holiday season. We will look forward to seeing you
all back on Tuesday, January 3rd.

1st and 2nd grade students and their families were invited to Sock Puppet Night with Ms. Martin on Tuesday, December 13th. The students and their families used their creativity to make their own sock puppet creations or remake characters from stories or cartoons. Everyone had a great time making their puppets and the results were fantastic!

Principal’s Message – December 2, 2011

Posted Friday, December 2nd, 2011 by Mrs. Mobley

Dear MacArthur Community,

We had a great yesterday at our assembly recognizing our Students of the Month and the achievement of the student’s school-wide goal of earning 7,000 bear bucks in November. 7,086 instances of  safe, respectful and responsible behavior in one month surely is something to celebrate!

We began MAP testing this week and we will continue through next week. To help your child do his or her best, be sure he or she gets plenty of rest and breakfast in the morning.

Thanks so much to those of you who have stopped in to take a star off of our Giving Tree or donated to help MacArthur families in need. We still have wishes on our tree in case you would like to participate. Just stop in or call the office.

Please be sure to open the attached the most recent edition of Mac News for information on upcoming events at MacArthur as well as the December reading calendar. We hope to see all of you at the first Taste of MacArthur next Friday, December 9th. It is sure to be a fun and delicious event!

Have a wonderful weekend.
